July 10 UPDATE: The good news is your efforts to oppose Trumpcare have dealt the bill serious wounds, which might turn fatal. The bad news–and this shouldn’t be news, but, you know–Mitch McConnell and his ilk won’t back down and do what they should have done in the first place, aka negotiate a bipartisan bill–without a fight.
On July 7 the Washington Post ran a story titled Senate GOP and White House Plan Final, Urgent Blitz to Pass Health-Care Law, which you can read here:
Now the bad news. Topher Spiro (who you should follow on Twitter at @TopherSpiro) said on Sunday July 9:
Everyone is leaving it all out on the field. You’re not alone in this fight. But you need to bring maximum pressure for 2 more weeks.
So, yeah. Two more weeks of this, minimum. Stopping Trumpcare may well eat July 2017, but so be it. We’re rescheduling non-Trumpcare queued posts to keep the focus on this particular fight, only putting forward those that are time-sensitive and which we already promised to post on specific days.
We’re now at the point in the horror movie when the serial killer is about to claw his way out of the grave and start attacking again.
Call your senators. Keep the pressure up. Keep urging your friends across the country to call, too.
It’s especially important to call if any of these people are your senators:
Susan Collins of Maine
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
Rob Portman of Ohio
Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia
Cory Gardner of Colorado
Dean Heller of Nevada
Bill Cassidy of Louisiana
Jeff Flake of Arizona (but wish him condolences–his father died June 26)
Dan Sullivan of Arkansas
Bob Corker of Tennessee
Lamar Alexander of Tennessee
Richard Shelby of Alabama
Luther Strange of Alabama
Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania
Ron Johnson of Wisconsin
See https://trumpcaretoolkit.org for phone numbers and tweetable statistics about health care coverage loss in these senators’ states.
If your senators are solid Dems, call and thank them for standing firm against the AHCA.
If your senators are Republicans, call call call call call and make it damn clear that you are against the AHCA and you will vote for their opponents come reelection time.
