Support Women Who Run for Office and Donate to She Should Run and Emily’s List

Support women who run for office with both your time and your money, and donate periodically to Emily’s List, which helps pro-choice Democratic women get elected.

One of the silver linings of the outcome of the presidential election was the surge of interest from women who want to run for elected office. More than 4,500 women have stepped forward since November 8, 2016, joining incubators such as She Should Run and other programs that teach them how to run.

Read your local paper and learn about female candidates who might run, or are running, for local office. See if you can support them with your time and your money.

Another venue that allows you to support female candidates across the country is Emily’s List. Founded in 1985, it has helped hundreds of women get elected to Congress and lower-level offices, including Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Duckworth, Kamala Harris, Barbara Boxer, Hillary Clinton, Kirsten Gillibrand, and delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton. (BTW, there’s no Emily–the letters are an acronym for Early Money Is Like Yeast.)

Important: Hey, are you a woman? Why don’t you run? Don’t tell yourself you’re unqualified, or lesser than. You know that phrase, ‘Lord, give me the confidence of a mediocre white man’? Well, the white man running the country right now doesn’t even rise to the level of mediocrity. You can do this. Really, you can.
