Support Democrat Wendy Carrillo’s primary bid to run for California state assembly.
Carrillo was one of the two top finishers among the 10 Democrats who ran in the special primary. She came first, with 22.2 percent of the vote. She will face off against the number-two finisher, Luis Lopez, who gathered 18.6 percent of the vote.
It appears that no Republicans ran in the special primary–just Democrats, an Independent, a Libertarian, and a representative from the Peace and Freedom party–so if Carrillo wins the December 5, 2017 special election, it looks like she is the winner proper.
Carrillo is solidly and admirably progressive. She supports affordable healthcare, debt-free college, a $15 minimum wage, civil rights across the board, and social justice issues generally. When she arrived in the U.S. from El Salvador as a small child, she was undocumented. She gained her citizenship as a young adult.
She is endorsed by Run For Something, Emily’s List, the California Democratic Party, #VoteProChoice, Democracy for America, Voices for Progress, and scores of unions, among others.
