Support Stephany Rose Spaulding, who is running for the House seat for Colorado’s 5th District in 2018.
Spaulding grew up on the south side of Chicago, the daughter of two public school teachers. She is an associate professor of women’s and ethnic studies at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, as well as a senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. The January 2017 Women’s March inspired her to run.
She believes accessible health care is a right, and favors reforming the Affordable Care Act (ACA) while working toward universal healthcare. She wants to improve support for military personnel, veterans, and their families. She favors strengthening public education and reducing the cost of college tuition. She advocates for sustainable wages, affordable housing, and protecting the environment.
Spaulding is one of three Democrats who will face off in the June 26, 2018 primary. If she wins, she will run against Republican Doug Lamborn, who has held the seat since 2006. He’s won fairly handily in his last few elections, getting around 60 percent of the vote, but he will have three Republican primary challengers in 2018. The Cook Political Report regards Colorado’s 5th District as “solid Republican”.
