OTYCD originally published this story earlier in the month. We intend to repost it often (and update it often) during the next two months, because supporting the twin runoffs is exceptionally important.
Help Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff win their Georgia Senate Runoffs on January 5, 2021.
You know how they say it ain’t over till it’s over?
Well, it ain’t over. Georgia is still rolling.
Rev. Raphael Warnock did well enough in the state primary to force a runoff against Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler.
In the mid-afternoon on Thursday, November 5, 2020, as the presidential race count continued, Republican incumbent David Perdue dropped below 50 percent of the vote, triggering a runoff against Democrat Jon Ossoff.
Both Georgia Senate contests will take place on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
The two runoffs, which would have been important regardless, assume a truly absurd amount of importance against the backdrop of the 2020 election results.
Democrats had high hopes for their Senate candidates, but they underperformed, to put it mildly. John Hickenlooper defeated Cory Gardner, and Mark Kelly ousted Martha McSally, but nothing else went the party’s way. We lost Doug Jones in Alabama, as expected, but we almost lost Gary Peters in Michigan.
The Alaska and North Carolina Senate races remain outstanding as of November 5, 2020, but things are unclear for Dr. Al Gross, and they don’t look good for Cal Cunningham.
If the Democrats win both Georgia Senate races, we gain greater control over the Senate and possibly get to 50/50. Yes, that’s the best we can hope for, assuming Gross and Cunningham are defeated, and yes, that means Kamala Harris will do a lot of tie-breaking.
Mitch McConnell, unsurprisingly, has promised to continue behaving like an utter turd. That is, of course, what he does.
If Warnock and Ossoff emerge victorious, McConnell has far less leeway to play the spoiler.
So! It ain’t over. We need to turn right around and support Warnock and Ossoff with time and money, all through the holiday season.
What follows is a bundle of useful information that will help you help Georgians lift Warnock and Ossoff to victory. Please bookmark it so you don’t miss any small updates we might add over the next few months.
OK, job one: Spread the word to friends and family in Georgia about voter registration.
The deadline to register to vote in the January runoffs is:
DECEMBER 7
If you weren’t registered in time for the November general election, you can get squared away to vote in these races.
If you will turn 18 before the January 5, 2021 election, you can register to vote in the runoff.

We also need to center and support organizations already on the ground in Georgia who will turn out the Democratic vote in the twin Senate runoffs.
