Avoid Boosting the Social Media Messages of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and the Like

Avoid boosting the social media messages–the tweets, Facebook and Instagram posts, etc.–of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and similar noxious Republicans.

You can’t avoid hearing about whatever horrible thing fresher Georgia House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Guanopsychotic) just did. Even if you’ve taken measures to avoid her online, news of her latest doings will appear in your timeline.

You might be tempted to retweet or share her messages.

Don’t.

Not even to snark on her. Just don’t.

Sharing her messages spreads her messages. It also ups her social media engagement numbers.

In other words, you reward her for her messed-upped-ness. And if you reward her for acting messed up, she’ll keep acting messed-up.

That doesn’t just go for Greene but for Lauren Boebert, Madison Cawthorn, and every other GOP miscreants.

The impeccable Celeste Pewter (@Celeste_Pewter) summed it up in a January 28, 2021 tweet:

This might be futile, but a periodic reminder: don’t QT Greene or Boebert’s tweets, even if it’s just to snark. Screencap if you must. QTing elevates their messaging further, and it’s exactly what they want. There is no such thing as bad publicity for them.

You wanna fight them? Best way to do that online is to ignore them.

Spend your time on social media boosting the voices that would benefit most from it, not these clowns.
